Well I also think maybe it's all about the personality, if she treat him better in the first place not being a creeps, he probably in love with her too
but he didn’t notice her “better” personality when they broke up. he barely saw her for 3 seconds. its the fact that she BROKE UP with him that made him interested. Which shows to me that he took an interest in her, out of narcissism for himself. Also Narcissism isn’t inherently bad for me at least, until it hurts someone else, its just not LOVE, you know?
i feel like they could have just showed him being relieved to be out of this relationship and her developing feelings with someone else, and i think the plot would personally feel more natural to me.
He was with her for 1 year and she was a creep, she suddenly did a 180 and changed completely, this isnt "interest" he is just being alarmed and curious about this change and her 'New personality'.
Maybe he is intrigued of her. It is probably not love. He will develop the love emotion after he got to know her new personality.

im kind of tired of this trend of man noticing woman when she ignores him. Here’s the bitter reality. He probably won’t. Additionally, even if he does notice you if you ignore him, then that’s just kind of… not love? Its narcissism on his side really (how dare she ignore ME??) So its okay if he doesn’t like you. Its okay baby. You deserve better regardless! (I know she treated him badly here, Im speaking more generally) Look for romance in healthier places, and wish your past flames the best of luck for the future.
