It's just become such an easy device by now that authors don't even seem to think of other ways, because this is easier. Same with the alcohol thing. Just think about how many yaoi wouldn't exist if the MC didn't get drunk in the beginning. It gets old after a while.
I'm reaaalllllly tired of the rape/sexual assault trope. If we could just shove it into the void and learn how to integrate better plot setbacks that'd be great.
