There's a difference between forgetting and getting over.. based on my understanding, he said he couldn't get rid of the ring, as in he wouldn't be able to forget the love that he shared with his loved on, but he never explicitly said he was gonna continue wearing it. Additionally, him visiting the grave was to make peace with the fact that he has someone new that he loves now, to show that he is moving on with his life and taking a step forward, but won't forget the love and bond they once shared. Time probably stopped for the omega when he lost his husband/friend and he lost himself to grieve.. but thanks to the alpha/fated partner he was able to unfreeze time, and was essentially saved by him. It's a sad but beautiful story imo and I enjoyed reading it!
