FL could have just said that "i don't think this is working out because of me and the distance is just too much i have grown deattatch from you and i no longer feel the same way i did in the past. Sorry let's break up" this is a civilized way to break up in a long-distance relationship or u could have just say " sorry i don't love u anymore, i want to break up".
