As for watching it doesnt really matter, cause both of them take a different way to tell the story. 98 anime took place when maximum was just beggining so there are some things that wont end up in manga and trigun stampede is kinda studio orange's own take of the story, both are great so its worth checking out all of them (be vary of badlands rumble cause they downgraded vash to horny dog Σ( ￣□￣||))
