Well tbf he's not being romantic in the situation. He knew the guy was bullshitting the uke that's why he tried to prove something.
I'm sorry but from when is eating from the trash can romantic? Even if it was my food and I'm a terrible cook, I would be disgusted if someone ate it like that. That's not romantic from any perspective.
