I was looking forward to reading this one because I found it in a list dedicated to satisfying revenge plots. When I saw the semi-low rating, I was alarmed, yet I still proceeded to binge this. I've got to say.... this was one of the worst things I've ever read and I regret dedicating as much time to reading it as I did.
Let's get on to what I hated about it.
The story started off great. When I saw the scene where she threw a heel at her ex-husband's head and her sister's head, I was like FINALLY! and WOULD YOU KNOW IT, IT TURNS OUT SHE'S DAY DREAMING WHILST WATCHING HER SISTER AND HER HUSBAND HOOK UP. Everything ended up being so drawn out because many of the chapters consisted of the following scenes:
- sister and husband have sex
- she's pissed
- husband says some egocentric shit
- maid spills some new revelation
This shit kept happening until FINALLY THE ML WAS INTRODUCED. Turns out.... it's the emperor. So everything is fine and dandy and I'm like omg she's gonna get a divorce, take her revenge and get with the emperor hehe haha. NOPE. Some shitty prophecy is introduced. It says that a woman from the Fl's family will birth the heir. So you may ask, does the emperor ask the fl for her hand in marriage? THAT WOULD BE TOO EASY. Instead, he is so absorbed by his title and the possibility that one of the sisters may birth an heir who becomes the next emperor, that he sends a marriage proposal TO FL'S SHITTY SISTER. FL IS FLABBERGASTED AS SHE SHOULD BE AND SHE TELLS THE EMPEROR ABOUT EVERYTHING THAT HAS HAPPENED. Yk what this bastards solution is? TO MARRY BOTH OF THE SISTERS. WHAT THE ACTUALLY FLIPPITY FLOPPITY FUCK. so she basically has to convince him and give him a shit ton of reasons as to why he can't impregnate her sister and shit and he semi gives in and he's like fineee I'll marry you guys and then I'll divorce her.
EVEN AFTER MARRIAGE WHEN IT GETS EXPOSED THAT MAYBE THE EMPRESS IS INFERTILE, YOU CAN TELL THAT HES STILL THINKING ABOUT HAVING A CHILD WITH THE SISTER BUT WHEN FL TELLS HIM THAT THE SISTER MAY DEADASS BE INFERTILE TOO AND TO PLEASE NOT HAVE A CHILD WITH HER SISTER HES FINALLY LIKE 'well if your sister can't get pregnant, and you also can't get pregnant, then fine, I won't sleep with her and I'll wait for you to solve your issues'.
THIS IS LITERALLY THE SUMMARY OF THE FUCKED UP THINGS DONE BY THE SISTER TO THIS POINT:
- she's obviously has an affair with her sister's husband
- she's killed their dad(because he wasn't actually her dad, hence she could not be the one to fulfil the prophecy because she isn't actually a part of the family. She kills him so that no one can find this out)
- she's obviously tried to kill fl a bunch of times
- she's gotten pregnant with fl's ex-husband's child which she aborted for the purpose of marrying the emperor.
EVEN AFTER ALL OF THIS THE SCHEMY AS MOTHERFUCKING DUKE IS LIKE OMG WE'RE GONNA TELL THE ENTIRE EMPIRE THAT THE EMPRESS IS INFERTILE UNLESS YOU CONSUMMATE WITH THE SISTER. I KID YOU NOT IN CHAPTER FUCKING 68 HE GOES ON ABT HOW MUCH HE LOVES THE EMPRESS SO I'M LIKE OKAY THEN HE'S NOT GONNA CONSUMMATE WITH THE SISTER BECAUSE WHY WOULD HE? ONLY THEIR REPUTATIONS ARE ON THE LINE. NOPE THE DAY COMES AND HE'S SITTING ON THE SISTERS BED AND SHE SITS ON HIS LAP AND SHE IS ABOUT TO KILL HIM AS DIRECTED BY THE DUKE AND JUST BEFORE SHE KILLS HIM THE FL BURST IN WITH THE INFORMATION THAT THE SISTER IS ACTUALLY NOT A PART OF THE FAMILY. AND THE EMPEROR IS LIKE OMG THEY'VE DONE SO MANY SHITTY THINGS, LETS KILL THE SISTER AND THE DUKE.
LIKE??????
FL LITERALLY SAID THAT SHE WAS GOING TO KILL HER SISTER WITH HER OWN TWO HANDS FOR KILLING THEIR DAD AND SHES LITERALLY EXECUTED LIKE ANYONE ELSE??????
PLUS THERE'S LIKE NO ROMANTIC CHEMISTRY BETWEEN FL AND ML AND MY HEART WAS NOT WARMED WHATSOEVER.
tbh I don't think there's any prequels to stories about shitty cheating emperors who cheat and have illegitimate children, but ml definitely has the soul to pull that role off. This is fiction obviously but I'm highly concerned for fl's future because the emperor is so nonchalant about using any method to keep his crown and sacrificing fls happiness. He's probably going to take in another wife if it means power because he was willing to sleep with the sister just for reputation points.
