It's a manga, so of course the setting is (most of the time) in Japan, so to say a traditional/old style room as a Japanese-style room WHEN THEY'RE IN JAPAN is just - ugh. It's like if you're in America and saw an old-style house and say that's an American-style house, it's so stupid, ugh. This is why I don't like localization.( ̄へ ̄)

Edit: Someone in the comment had enlightened me how Japan actually calls it Japanese-style which imo is weird, so this rant is really is wrong, my apologies. Though I still have gripes about localization so I've decided to study Japanese and buy mangas when I have the money instead, though I don't know how long will that take.

I don't really get why your upset, but certain styles do exist. It's called a japanese style room cause it has a certain esthetic. Same as your example. These styles can be found outside of the country they are in, because poeple like the esthetic. Furthermore you won't find a traditional Japanese style room in every house in Japan. Just like not every American house is traditional American style.

I know certain styles exist. What I meant is a Japanese person wouldn't call a Japanese-style room a Japanese-style room, they would've called it a traditional or old-style, especially since they're in Japan, and that they're Japanese. If they're outside Japan it would make sense to call it Japanese-style, but they're not, and it's really frustrating.

Well i can't really tell for sure unless we check what is written in the original japanese text.

Really? Maybe i misunderstood what u mean but in some countries it's actually pretty common, like here in Brazil, there are some things that we look at it and say: "wow this is very brazilian style". And honestly, this is only heard from brazilian people or someone that came and lived/still live here for some years.

Imagine being this ungrateful for someone taking the time to translate a manga so you can read it for free

    Amineko October 13, 2023 9:15 am

lol but this is how traditional styles are usually referred to. this is not a translation issue. In Japan, you do distinguish between Japanese and Western-styles and this is what they're called

As a person who has a degree in Japanese language and culture I can tell you that it's different. Basically 和室 わしつ washitsu refers to a japanese-style room and 洋室 ようしつ youshitsu refers to a western style room. The main difference is that the floor of a washitsu is a tatami and the youshitsu is wooden floor. This is not the only difference but the main one.

And yes, 和室 literally means Japanese style room: 和 wa as a prefix is used to indicate Japan, Japanese style just as in 和食 washoku=japanese food. 室 is a kanji used to indicate a room so 和+室 is literally japanese style room. Same thing with 洋室 where 洋 as a prefix refers to foreign, Western, European.

Seriously? IMO that's so weird especially when you're in the country. My rant is uncalled for then, my apologies.
