Cringe

Doesntsleep October 31, 2023 5:17 am

I'm kind of tired of only seeing the basic pale, stick figure pretty boy paired with the slightly tan, muscular guy with a side part. I just want some variety out here!! if someone has any recommendations, please give me :33

I just want POC representation, but every tag I look at it's just someone slightly tanner person from an ambiguous island who is uncivilized or something like that.

I'm sorry, but I'm just curious about why you'd expect actual POC representation from countries like SK, JP, or CN.

I get what you’re saying, but Asians are POC and most of these authors writing about their own culture.

I do agree that a lot of the times where there’s Brown characters that are not East Asian (or even their own culture because there’s stereotypes about Chinese people in Japanese manga and vice versa), there tends to be not any research done about other cultures and they portray racist stereotypes of Indigenous or Arab people.

If you want to read queer fiction about non-East Asian POC, it’s better to look for authors who belong the culture you want to read about instead of this manga site that mostly has comics from East Asia. These aren’t comics but I do have some book recs:
-Dante and Aristotle Discover the Secrets of the Universe or Everything Begins and Ends At the Kentucky Club by Benjamin Alire Sáenz (A Mexican American, gay author)
-Let’s Talk About Love by Claire Kann (a Black American, ace author)
-Funny Boy by Shyam Selvadurai (a Sri Lankan Canadian, gay author)
-If You Could Be Mine by Sara Farizan (An Iranian American author)

    I have a list on masc/lean bottoms => https://www.mangago.me/home/mangalist/284405/

Honestly, as someone who DOES like lean/masc bottoms, I think there has been plenty of them recently, and I am quite liking that development.

Though I am sure you are aware that East Asians are indeed POCs? Japanese people ARE POCs. I understand wanting more skin color/body diversity, but that doesn't necessarily mean JP people aren't POC.

Oh I can see how you would make that mistake if you didn’t learn this term in school. POC stands for People of Color. It’s not about skin shade, this term includes all people who aren’t white/European descent. It’s a term that originated in the US, often used in activism to talk about the experiences and oppression experienced by POC in the US, and other countries started using this term later on.

If you see the word BIPOC on the internet, it stands for Black, Indigenous and People of Color. It has a similar meaning to POC, but it puts more emphasis on Black and Indigenous people because of the specific history of oppression they experienced in North America.

that makes a lot more sense, thank you for non malicious way pf explaining:) and looking back on the posts I've seen using what I thought was slang, it makes more sense what they meant with POC as wording :3
what does indigenous mean in this context of sentence though? like people from the Americas?

Yes, it’s people originally from the Americas and used this way in North America. Indigenous people in the US might also identify as Native American. In Canada, they might also identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit.

Globally it’s a general term that means people who originally lived on the land before colonizers took over the country. For example some other Indigenous groups around the world are Aboriginal Australians, the Ainu people of Japan, Sami people from Norway, Inuit people from Greenland, etc.

Smyrna and Capri tho it's fantasy and the other yaoi where they were best friend uke there is tan and the seme is white hair and light skin I think they're drawn by the same author who drew the dildo boy transformation

We also have the weird sci-fi yaoi where uke is tan and chasing ML because ML is wanted(?)

    Sushi_Lyfu November 6, 2023 1:51 pm

We also have this tan uke, I think its called third ending something I kind of forget but I bet you already finish reading that. This is manga go after all
