Okay, so I haven't watched Yuri on Ice, but should I? Every BL-ish anime I watched that had no shounen ai or yaoi tag tend to be frustrating to me because they avoid making the main couple official. Yet, considering you guys' comments today, does the main couple become official in YOI? SHould I watch it (finally)?

I feel the same way, I get annoyed by fan service that is too strong but nothing happens..... its a really good anime and I am enjoying it regardless their relationship seems so legit I dont even know anymore, but I think its still 'all in good fun' and not legit...... 'though they make it seem so legit so idk
I would still recommend watching it though

Oh noes, I'm still unsure. I'm a huge fan of sport anime, but I strongly prefer the ones with less fanservice and with hardcore sport references. I enjoy BL, but I prefer them to get straight to the point. The two cannot co-exist in my mind somehow ╥﹏╥

It's so heavily implied they might as well sign the marriage papers it's so implied that it's easy to get over the fact that it's not 100% official

There was initially a lot of concern that it was queerbaiting, but I'm inclined to think yoi is legit. I mean, most of the intimacy is through heavy nuance (which is so much like Japanese culture anyway so..) but there is an obvious, genuine relationship between them. The depth of feelings is sooo real and so adorable. Plus it's an amazing anime with or without the gay so lol I highly recommend.

Let's see where it is going, considering how rare it is in anime for same sex couple to be in a official relationship especially marriage (unless they're tagged as yaoi, yuri, etc). Pffh, might consider watching it after the whole show is completed.

they literally got engaged in this week's episode. it's not queer-baiting and it's also not bl. it's a sport anime with queer characters. I highly recommend it.

You should watch it! Its not fan service, its very very canon. I cant see how you could argue otherwise..
Honestly, todays episode made me legit cry because of how realistically they portray a gay relationship. And its not even labeled as bl?! And like? its not weird or made fun of?! its just portrayed as a loving relationship and its amazing (●^◡^●)
And well..if youre not convinced yet, heres a spoiler for you:

They. are. now. engaged!!!! With rings and all. yupヾ(❀╹◡╹)ノ~

Really? If the ring is a metaphor I would flip a table though.

    I mean 'seriously' engaged???

    A Good Reader December 8, 2016 1:49 am

I mean, if there is really an official gay marriage in anime, then Japan has upped their game. Hopefully, the next episode doesn't end with it being a metaphor for coach-pupil relationship.

They are not literally engaged. Yuuri called the rings good luck charms. He protested strongly when friends jumped to the conclusion that they were married. Viktor's remark that the rings were engagement rings could be either genuine or a joke. That's how the anime is playing this, right on the line. Like the assumed kiss. They took it right up to Viktor throwing his arms around Yuuri, slow motion, lips wet and glistening and then...view blocked by Viktor's shoulder. Maybe they kissed, maybe they didn't. Coy wink. Are they engaged? Viktor says so, Yuuri's response...got cut off by everyone getting uppity about the gold medal.

So far, the anime maintains plausible deniability. It hadn't crossed the line into fully acknowledging a portrayal of a queer romantic relationship yet.

Shared a meaningful kiss, exchange engagement ring and talking about marriage. Does it look official already?
And next ep I'm pretty sure they will go into a real deal match so today ep is vikturi special

gold wedding rings for 770 euros as a 'lucky charm'? come on now

I'm still hesitant because I've been let down in similar situations too, but Yuri on Ice has proven to be different. I feel their relationship is already canon, after episode 8 & 9 really sealed the deal for me. Their relationship is just craft-fully written to be nuanced, and today's episode (10) just basically laid out how Viktor fell in love with Yuri, and then they got engagement rings. Like even if they don't get married by the end of the season (which would sadden me) It's still not queer baiting, because it's beyond obvious they are in love with each other and are working together in their relationship. Also you need to watch for the other characters like precious baby Phichit Chulanont and Cat boy "Yurio" Yuri Plisetsky. The story and other characters really make YOI great, even without the amazing Viktuuri ship happening.(≧∀≦) Sorry for writing so much. lol.

I really think you should watch the show and build your own opinion! I dont find it frustrating at all, more satisfying than anything really. (when it comes to the romance at least, cant say the same about the competitions tho lol)

Hey, I didn't say it. Yuuri did. Take it up with the writers. Nowhere in this episode did anyone propose and anyone accept an offer of marriage. All was implied. I want to believe it as much as the rest of you, but it's clear to me that the writing has been so carefully coy as to never commit one way or the other.

If they get married, I will happily eat my words. Heck, they don't even have to get married to convince me. They just have to say "We are a couple" officially and kiss so that we can actually see their lips touch. But so far, everything is implied. Even when things are mentioned like engagement and marriage and love and boyfriends, it isn't quite serious, isn't quite straightforward. All could be explained away. This show is going right up to the line and no further--so far. I sincerely hope it goes all the way, so to speak. But it hasn't. Yet.
