Over characterization, over indulging into a character. The guy was simply to absorbed in his role that he became that character completely. The other guy fell in love with the 'character', that overly absorbed guy went into reset mode (hence the panic attack), he returned to normal. The character no longer exists/never existed irl. Its basically angst.
