I like the way his character is written, I enjoy asshole characters too and he isn't even that big of a dick because he's just a kid himself. So I don't hold all that against him. He also seems to have a some form of internalised homophobia or atleast did so earlier.
You're also making assumption about his reaction/actions regarding the club prez. Threatening to outing is sickening and I don't support that but I also have the ability to understand the nuance there. I dislike action but I like him as a character/person.
