I like your take on that! Makes sense that Luca would act that way. Btw, It actually is based on a novel. Unfortunately, from what I know, the translated chapter were removed due to the author finding out about it. All I got to read was from about 20-30ish chapters (〜￣△￣)〜

I think the reason why Luca thinks Rudiger is not a good fit is simply because he is unattached in the previous life. Luca must have been yearning for his attention and love, familial one, but instead did not get anything from Rudiger.
If I have to take a wild guess, Luca probably asked Rudiger to escape from assassins with him, but instead Rudiger chose to protect Luca and died alone, thinking that it’s his responsibility to protect the heir, not because he loves Luca as an uncle. That’s what make Luca thinks that this man is incapable of loving anyone, in any way.
