The evil mom hired Mieum's dad to kill Jitae, but looks like after he failed he ran away. And the mom was scared that he will expose her as the person who wanted to kill Jitae. But then he (Mieum's dad) appeared in front of them (as I see it was right before ch 1 in the timeline), so the mom ordered Jian to kill him. But Jian didn't kill the dad, instead used him to blackmail Mieum, because he knew that Mieum would be a key character to bring Jitae down.
So now the mom thinks that Mieum's dad is dead, she doesn't know that Jian didn't kill him.“
