I think the reason he wasn't able to go into heat in the first place is the anxiety of not being a dominant omega, and therefore is not very fertile and capable of giving birth to supreme children which his husband deserves (from his perspective). I think it's consistent with his personality all throughout the manga, him being insecure with himself.
Was him turning back into a beta all reversed? Like we saw him go into heat and his bite mark reappeared, but like what was the cause or reasoning? What was the point of that whole storyline?
