Why do you assume that this story doesn't bring me happiness just because I don't really like the characters? I find it so bad it's honestly passing to the funny category and I enjoy reading this kind of things, because of unintentional hilarity.
There's whole category of art for this sort of things.
Why hate reading? Why are you flattening my experiences in such an ugly way? I don't hate this story, I don't have bad consuming feelings about those story, I find it badly written which makes it good. It's quintessential kitsch. Yet here you are judging how other people interact with art and what they take out of it and tell them if they don't do it your approved way they shouldn't at all. Such reductive approach to complicated stuff.
Saying that person reads something that brings them unhappiness is an assumption, because you have no idea if this is in fact bringing any person unhappiness. Saying somebody is hate reading is a judgment, because it is never used as a positive thing.
Your assumption is that people not liking character/plot but still reading it have no enjoyment out of it.
I could reverse it and say 'I have no idea why people engage with comments of people who don't like the work of art if those comms make them unhappy'. The idea that readers should engage and comment on works they only 100 % like or stand for and only with happy feelings is standing contradictory to the idea of engaging with art.
The Cambridge definition of hate reading: "to read a book, article, blog, etc. that you dislike or think is very bad, because you enjoy laughing at it or criticizing it" you don't have to hate a thing to enjoy reading it but it literally is hate reading. You don't have to like the word because it has negative conotations and while I don't enjoy hate reading and think it's a waste of time, whoever decides to do that has the right to spend their time that way.
Also questioning and not understanding why someone does something negative is valid, be it commenting or hate reading. You just feel called out and mad at me for it and trying to show that I'm wrong.
Ain't no way people are actually liking this story. Like what is the artist trying to tell with this story? What are they trying to accomplish? The worst alpha in omegaverse? Bravo! Mister pheromones that look like mold definitely wins there.
