Part of the problem is a lack of civics education in K-12 public education here. I didn't have a decent education in US civics (or other countries for that matter) until I hit college, and even then it wasn't worth much until I went for my bachelor's degree. There's a serious hole in our education system when it comes to relevant knowledge, but hey, we can number crunch with the best of them. I figure the gap only serves to help keep rotten, self-serving people in office, so they certainly won't work very hard for revamping our education system to favor the American people. After seeing who Trump chose to head the Department of Education, I'm even more convinced of this...

it's awful, but it's never in the ruling elites interest for the people to be educated and critical of the institutes in power. it's better for us to be ignorant and easily manipulated sigh

Critical thinking skills also aren't really taught until college. Interesting that so many Trump voters weren't college-educated.

haha that's a better thought! i feel awful wishing serious harm on anyone. i'd settle for what you suggested and then he can be impeached for some no doubt awful thing he's done/will do.

What's even more interesting is that Trump did not win the popular vote. The electoral college system made it so he could win. The US will likely see a lot more future presidents in office that did not win the popular vote, predicted by various statisticians, because of the way the electoral college system was designed. It's all very frustrating.

Not a trump supporter but seeing hilary clinton there where he is, wouldnt be any better (⊙…⊙ )

I feel your frustration. At least you had the opportunity to vote against him. Over here we're stuck with the orange president and we couldn't vote against him. (We're US citizens and vote in the primaries but we can't vote in the general). ╥﹏╥

You vote in the primaries but not the general?! That's really f'cked up.

I'm unaffiliated so I can only vote in the general.

It makes no damn sense. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭ We also don't have a single senator and our representative has a voice but not a vote.

Sounds like you're in a US territory like Puerto Rico. The territories are treated very strangely and unfairly, but not all of them want to become states either... They're tough political minefields.

Yep, the easiest way to start a bloodbath in Puerto Rico is to bring up the topic of whether or not we should become a state. Lots of opinions regarding the matter. (●'◡'●)ノ And regardless, even if we decide to become a state getting a certain political party to agree to add a new state (filled with latinos) doesn't sound easy to do. Anyways, in my opinion (obviously biased), we're citizens, we pay (most) US taxes and federal law is above our laws so we should have some representation that actually counts and we should have the right to pick the leader. I mean, we already vote in the primaries so why not just go all the way? (Again, because of politics it's not so simple)
