I was shocked too when I read that chapter Basically without a tan he would have the same skin tone as his brother (there's a chapter where both are shown in their youth), so not even white but light brown... After all I remember he said he's from New Mexico

In chapter 45 Gale says to Kyle that he has a nice tan and so he wonders if he still surfs a lot. But still he is not white, he is just not that dark (like you can clearly see the difference between his brother Gale and a white character like Iliyan). In chapter 61 he and his brother are shown as kids with their parents, so you can see what he actually looks like

It doesn't matter of course, we are simply talking about it just cause we never considered that he could be tanned, so it was just a bit surprising to find that out after so many chapters, that's all!
I assumed he was tan the minute they introduced Gale. . All those Hawaiian shirts and living in a sunny area....I just kind of put two and two together. It would be interesting (and weird at this point) to see him without a tan, even though it's kind of his trademark.
Indeed, but Gale was first introduced only in chapter 44/45 if I'm not mistaken, which is the same chapter they talk about tanning. Besides I have to admit that I'm really bad at logical conclusions, if they hadn't explicitly said that he's tanned I wouldn't even have thought of it!
Hahaha. I live in a really sunny place all year round. You get a lot of varying types of tans out here (i don't tan, I burn cause I'm a redhead), so I always thought he was really just tan. Those crazy shirts really gave him away too...too much beach time. But seriously, I wonder how he's keeping up with it and where he finds the time at this point.
Ahh that's why you got it right away, that makes sense! But I admit that I thought it was strange that his skin was naturally so dark given his facial features, but still I hadn't thought about a tan at all, also because like you said he incredibly manages to maintain it very well

lmfawow maybe he's tanned, but irl full siblings can have dramatically different melanin & melanin levels can change over a person's life. within the story, he's pretty athletic & living in a tropical/semi-tropical area, so he'd get some sun from that, and he has enough trauma from his brother, so he might desire more differentiation compared to him. but also how do we know the brother just didn't inherit the melanin & good tanning gene?

as weird as it is you can sun tan/self tan/spray tan your d as it has the same skin as the rest of your body and there are guys that do it. if a guy wants to maintain the tan look it makes sense he'd also tan his d lol.
