It's not Crash Into Me. Okay, I am getting into the "I think this or that" territory. But iirc, MC has either an obsessive bf or ex, and he basically asked the guy he met to be a temporary boyfriend of sorts to drive the obsessive away. Also, it's all colored. I think I found it, it's Lovers Next Door. Haven't read it yet but the premise is hella familiar.
