Yeah I don't get it either. If I was looking for a cute slice of life romance I'd go to Shoujo. If I was feeling seinen I wouldn't read this one.
It just feels like a lof of stories I do like with female protagonists are put into the seinen category, while only stories that center completely on romance with a female mc are called shoujo.
But if Shoujo is just a manga centered completely around love, what's the point of creating that category instead of just labelling it romance?
Yeah Ik that. But it feels like most stories directed at girls are being put in seinen as long as the plot doesn't revolve completely around romance these days.
Like apothecary diaries for example, when I feel like most people who read it are girls.
And even skip and loafer. I've never seen men talk about it, and it feels like the target audience to this would be girls around the mc's age
Yeah stories that are seinen are directed at young men though, to be clear. Theyre posted in seinen magazines, that doesnt mean that a lot of young girls wont like them lol. This story is pretty much romance centered, but thats probably becoming popular among young dudes in japan
For apothecary diaries, theres probably not some crazy statistic on the dude to girl ratio but i think that apothecary diaries is pretty popular among guys. Ive met loads that watch it. For skip to loafer, there are various male youtubers that review it lmao if youre a girl youre probably gonna notice more girls reading it compared to men.
Either way its seinen, but that doesn't mean anything wild, anybody can read seinen and the category isnt too important. I was js curious
why is the main tag shoujo when the story is seinen? its weird
