What was he even doin when the empess died, zerkan’s reputation was destroyed, and the 2nd child drove the empire to ruins?
I feel like the emperor is one of the tash ones. The reason for him to have suggested for the Empress to take on a new hobby, while he lets and supports the concubine's expansion of power must be because he wants to see how far things would go to his likings.
I doubt he'd be a caring father, which was probably why he didn't do a single thing when Zerkan's reputation was completely destroyed, nor care about the empress' death. He seems like an easy-go-lucky(?), if I must say, or rather, he just wants power for himself and the empire, so it was like, none of his business whether his wife and the concubine dies whatsoever, as long as he's got his heir.
Additionally, he probably wanted to see who was more worthy for the throne, but since he didn't do a thing at all, the 2nd prince ended up taking a big step, which ruined the empire before he knew. Just basing on thoughts

The empress and concubine are at odds right now.
The emperor appears to be comfortable enough to suggest the empress take up a new hobby yet supports the concubines expansion of power? What the hell is he even doing, had a perfectly good wife and son yet cuddled up with some other woman that resulted in her spoiling him and essentially ruining him enough that HE became the seed of doom for the empire
