This sentence, " We cut off the head as soon as we caught it." WTF..... I have a qns though, how he know this merman is his first love? There cannot be only one merman in the sea... I guess he is not going to take any chances.
yes i noticed this too! it makes the story even more tragic. i think hes probably eaten other mermaids by now, considering that hes older too and not even phased by it all anymore

True. It doesn't seems like his first time tasting it. Didn't want to sound morbid but not like they display the head of the merman so there is no way to tell. Unless there is something unique about his first love body for him to tell apart from others. Such a tragic short story.
i like to imagine that the mermaids head and arms are also preserved because nobles are really strict when it comes to their auctioned goods, surely they wont accept their super expensive item coming incomplete…
