I think you seem to forget that if the mc is 18, Hatano would be 15 years old. He explicitly stated, 'Wait for me in 3 years!' indicating a 3-year age gap. Even if the main character is not 18, but perhaps 19, Hatano would still be 16 years old, which is still concerning. AND if they do end up dating they have to date after 3 years bc you can literally end up in jail bc ur dating a minor. Even hatano realized that.
