everybody talking about global warming in the comments but the first thing i thought when he said the world will sink was the one in the bible like Noah's ark?? which made a lot of sense to me cus of the ark in fishman island??? which was also named Noah???? (that luffy almost destroyed)
from a quick little research also (cus i pretty much have forgotten by now), the ark Noah in fishman island was made during void century and joyboy made a promise to lift the ship using poseidon but due to circumstances he wasn't able to fulfill it and left it to someone else to fulfill it so the fishmen are just protecting it until the time someone comes to fulfill it. The exact mission/purpose of the ship is unknown until the day it is raised.
