Yeah, I don't understand why anyone would be rooting for second guy. Yeah, their relationship is normal, and that's it. It was a bit of a rebound, and that rarely lasts, especially when there was no breakup in the first place because the relationship between the two MLs never took off despite both of them being in love with each other.
hm just gonna say this. what's up with people immediately jumping to root for the second guy though? to preface, as I've previously mentioned, I don't mind them both.
yachiyo did nothing wrong. he saw he had no chance, he "moved on". it's understandable it's hard for him to continue pursuing a friend who "doesn't like him back". if anything, it was touji that took long to realize his feelings. not blaming him for that, but doesn't the fact that touji also tried to "move on" because he "can no longer pursue" a friend he liked the same as what yachiyo had done? if people dislike yachiyo for that and not touji then it's very hypocritical.
if people are only rooting for kiyoto cause "you shouldn't always end up with your first love, they're a thing of the past" or simply because he's the second lead then that's really shallow imo.
it's very clear that yachiyo and touji still have feelings left up in the air, if they don't resolve that, it'll obviously be just pain for kiyoto. and what other method could they do to resolve it? by facing each other. but they still like each other and *SPOILER ALERT* yachiyo is now divorced and free. the only reasonable outcome for that would be for them to find each other again.
if yachiyo didn't have feelings anymore or touji ended up truly liking kiyoto rather than a rebound then yes kiyoto would have been a great endgame. but with the circumstances, it's hard to see that being a good ending.
