Where he was manipulating her, gaslighting her and trying to coerce her to leave and did the same to her husband. He is a manipulative bastard who chose this profession cause it suits his sick tendencies. He is the typical white patriarchal man of that era that used their new found way to call their sick fucked up games science. Finally they could play mind games and call it science. Back then they did not have any legislations around sciences much so these fucked up men did whatever they wanted and used their authority as untouchable white scientist (with noble titles) to trample on people who had common sense and came up with concerned voices against the strange fucked up shit they were up to. He is one of those.I think the author is trying to reference that kinda thing authentically in one single character maybe.

Yeah maybe I skimmed the backstory a bit lol. Idk I also watched that show nurse ratched, she is literally one of the cruelest doctors ever. But not because that's how she is as a person but because that's what the occupation does to a person. I recognize those people were fucked up but I don't really think it was like the consensus to be evil in order to be a psychiatrist. But I'm thinking and another easy way to interpret his past actions are intentional, like he ruined her husband to get to her.
