When I started reading this, I thought Carcel was a major so I got confused when some comments were ignoring his actions or prasing him. Now I get it

We are not ignoring his actions. We know the truth bc we read the novel and spoilers and the novel shows more. The manhwa cut out almost all of Ines' actions and thoughts so no one sees that she is more manipulative than shown in the manhwa.

No matter how good Cárcel Escalante was, there would be fleeting moments when a moment turns over to her in this tedious long relationship.

Then it would be awkward. Never.

Unsociable clothes. Unsociable relationships. Unsociable gazes…… It was necessary for her to create an environment where Cárcel Escalante can suffocate from the mere thought of her.

She had to get him fed up with her before he got interested. She had already done so successfully thus far.

At a time when he was frightened of her for a long time, Inés had spent a few years sending extreme love letters and gifts to the point where he was terrified. She made him overwhelmed by the pressure so he would run away and spread their distance on his own. (She lovebombed him.)

In those days, Cárcel did not run away as easily as she thought, but it was clear that there had been some progress. Eventually later on, she was afraid of getting married, and she made him go circles when he was in the military academy and the navy. (He did tried to get close to her and she made him run in circles.)

Nevertheless, the more inevitable time had arrived, and his fiancée, whom Cárcel Escalante was said to be ‘negligent’ with would finally enter the Escalante household. It couldn’t help but be fearful for him.

Nevertheless, at the beginning, she would hardly be able to do anything else. So she was willing to release the reins in advance. She intended to make him feel guilty as much as possible. Because they had to get married, and he had to have an affair. (She was purposely there in Prologue to make him feel guilty to rush the marriage.)

Cárcel Escalante would be under so much stress that he had finally gotten married to someone whose marriage he had been postponing, thus of course he had to have an affair.

As it was inevitable for newlyweds, he would overlapped bodies with her at least a few times on fixed dates as expected for the obligation of succession, however he would be disappointed by the stiff, boring response, and whenever he saw her gloomy clothes and annoyed attitude, he would feel skeptical of his life, then he would have an affair again to relieve himself.

Before the wedding, she would throw away everything she had said such as ‘live as you please’, ‘it’s okay’, and ‘it doesn’t matter’, and she would change her attitude to in fact, he couldn’t live as he pleased, it wasn’t okay, and that it did matter. (She wasn't calling out on him for cheating when she said she's not interested in him but it was her plan to lower his guard.)

She would display what it was to say two things with one mouth. And then he would suffocate. Suffocate to the point he only had the desire to wander….

In the meantime, every time he would have no choice but to have sex with his wife on fixed dates, he felt himself caught in his horniness cooling down, and like that, his affairs would bloom and bloom, and when she barely gave birth to a baby, he would feel liberated and have an affair again.

He could not stand to demand for the family’s responsibility, so by that time, he would use the child as arsenal to appeal for the responsibility and interest.

Then it would be suffocating again. He would’ve thought he was free once he had a child.

He would never want to have children again, and come up with a resolve to never have sex with that strict, gloomy wife again….

Just around this time, Inés would demand for sex with him. That way, she could get rejected.

How terrible would it be for a wife he hated, an uncomfortable wife, to constantly demand for sex? Although he was a rag, he was nice by nature, so he might give himself away a few times unintentionally, but it also had its limitations.

Thus he would cheat on her again under stress. When he returns, Inés would demand for sex again, Cárcel would refuse again, and he would cheat on her again under stress…….

And that was how rejection piled up over and over again, and once she could fill a petition with the names of the women who he spent the night with, she would become a successful woman of Ortega.

The Duke of Escalante and the Duchess of Escalante who did not live together.

It was such a perfect, meticulous plan. Until two days ago…….

‘I don’t need such dog-like freedom or privacy that you want to give me so badly. There’s no such thing as that in the first place from the marriages I know of.’

    ‘…….’

‘I’m a son of a bitch, but I’m more faithful than you think. Inés Valeztena.’

It was the moment when the grand plan, which she had single-handedly kept for 17 years without friends, collapsed.

‘So I never betray my family.’

Cárcel betrayed her expectations by saying he would not betray her. (People reading manhwa seem to be misreading this since she wanted him to cheat and his declaration that he will be faithful after marriage makes her angry because it broke apart her 17 year plan.)
