The impression I have is she's refused their help/money because she thinks they're evil. Otherwise it was a condition of... if you ditch your kid on us and say you don't wanna be part of the family then we're not supporting you financially anymore. I definitely think there's more to the story and she's deliberately leaving things out to look pitiful
Feels weird they didn't give her money or a decent house to live in when she left. Maybe there's more to the story
