Oh Shuden never loved Yeri in past life. It appeared that Past Life wife was wrong sacrifice bride (not valia).
Sacrifice Bride is used as medium to awaken Yeri power. Because Yeri stayed in imperial castle, shuden and his past wife had to repeatedly visited yeri. But yeri power didn't awaken. The spectacle priest (who disrespect valia), told shuden to divorce his wife because she was wrong person. But shuden refused. The priest then start rumors that shuden in love with yeri. Yeri was much more timid back then, and she didn't know how to clear up rumors. Finally the wife couldn't take it anymore and blame shuden because of those rumors and asked for divorce. Yeri power manifested because at that time Valia just appointed as her personal knight. It led to conclusion by the temple, that one of yeri maids, must be the real sacrifice bride. But because she isn't marry to Shuden, the prophecy wasn't fulfilled, due that led to disaster befall the empire : rebellion.

As you all know, Alvan (2nd prince) is the antagonist of the story. But his reason is stupid, I can't believe it. His actual reason was he is extremely jealous toward shuden. The emperor really value shuden since he was a kid (15yo), and gave him a lot of rewards and treated hum kindly, which made Alvan felt less, because he is a prince, why the emperor value shuden more than him. That's the reason for his rebellion.
In past live, it also the same, after killing Gusto (1st prince), Yeri and Valia. Alvan was immediately killed by Shuden. I mean, bro is stupid. His grandfather repeatedly told him to be friend with Shuden because Shuden has complete control over the army and it will be good if he get Shuden support.
Shuden (15yo) made an oath with emperor using holy artifact, the oath was something about that Shuden power will always protect the empire and will never harm empire. That's why the emperor trust him a lot.
