    I think it's because the trauma of her mother's death has been ingrained since she was a child. Traumas acquired in childhood are stronger, especially if she did not have any type of emotional support afterwards (since she was imprisoned and treated as a criminal). But I understand u point and I think the author could have made some fear of humans more explicit (However, let's remember that there are few chapters now and this can still be explored) (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ
