i absolutely think that they do check educational background judging by my experience with intern recruiting on campus. jio was there as an intern, not a temp i think.
author is really trying to humanize finance bros huh lol. still i find it hard to believe that a well known firm like Andy's former one, where they occupy ~20 floors of a building in Manhattan, would accept a high school drop out as an intern because those firms are hella obsessed with prestige (unless Jio is someone's son? ah, nepotism ~ another business world's favorite). but hey that's just one among many unrealistic details in this story and it isn't that big of a deal anyway because this is yaoi not real life lol. i just hope this time they will actually use lube while having sex...
