No Priests please

I really don't like the priest/nun love interest trope for the sole reason that sexualizing/fetishizing a religious figure, especially one that's taken a vow of celibacy feels icky. Like one of this jobs defining factors is the no romance and no sex part. That's being treated like a bad thing because the writer decided "He gets beaten for not obeying his vows look how evil the church is that means he should be able to have sex because his religion beat him therefore he should throw away his religious values and beliefs for a girl who doesn't beat him" it just feels like such a cop out maybe if he was just a "holy knight I'd be cool with it but he isn't he's a priest and it feels like making something horny that doesn't want to be horny.

Arguing that he should still stick with a religion/faction even though it "beat him" as you said because it feels like a cop out to you is stupid. He wants to QUIT being the priest anyways, he literally says he wants to step down from his position as priest, way before ML and MC even had the discussion of marriage. MC is not the reason he's not being the priest, it's the dynamics of the church.

Also, religious values and beliefs does not equate to the church. He can leave his position and his church and STILL hold his religious values, why do you insist that he stay in his position and continue getting beat because you don't want to "sexualize" him? If anything, you're the one putting the role of priest/nun in a pedastal and wanting him to persist despite the abuse.

No I'm just saying that the author doesn't believe viewer will want him to leave the church unless they do physical violence he has to be beaten to leave the church because the author doesn't want the nuance of "he wants to be a priest but also wants to get with FL.".

I don't mean the leaving of the violent church is a bad thing I just meant to say that making the church violent was the author's intention to make the viewer more willing to want the priest to stop being a priest "because that means he's going to get beaten" and not "he's changed his values and beliefs for this girl because he's in love with her" because the second option means we won't have slowburn and it seems outlandish that he'd put aside his way of life like that.

Religious figures whose whole point is "no sex" and making them love interest is weird and yucky because that position specifically is a choice and vow to not have sexual relations. I don't want to sexualize an occupation and I specifically don't want to sexualize an occupation that's sole value is not to be sexualized I just mean in general I don't like sexualizing a group of people who don't want it or want to be sexualized but here we have the author showing him shirtless and pinning a woman down to get the viewers all hot and bothered.

Don't you think it's strange the author made the chuech violent and cruel? Don't you think it's strange that the guy whose main trait is "devotion" is going to leave his religious job? Why would the author use his abuse to show us shirtless shots of his abs? I'm mainly scrutinzing the author because why would anyone make it like this?

In the first place like the other person said he WANTS to leave the church to protect his family. He still seems to be devoted to his god but being a priest is troublesome in his situation. Also I’d like to add that most manwhas have corrupted religions with bad people as head of them anyway so it’s not far fetched that this one would also integrate that because it’s a “game” type storyline that is extremely common.

You overglorify the church. Church is not inherently good. I used to go to church a lot and the amount of people who think they're good people because they go to church everyday but are genuine assholes are a common thing. Am I less of a believer than they are because they continued to go to church and I didn't?

Just because you believe in God, it does not equate to morality and holiness in terms of attitude. A lot of people don't practice what they preach. Know that anyone can commit abuse, the church is not exception so it is not unreasonable to make a story like that. Look further into church politics and crimes and you'll figure this manhwa actually puts them in a less harsher light.

His main trait being "devotion" is not synonymous with following the people who make up these rules of the church. Additionally, it was not even the abuse itself that made him want to give up being a priest, it was the fact that they weren't letting him see his family. Those are not the rules made by a God, rather the church itself.

Your wanting of nuance of "he wants to be a priest but wants to be with FL" and wanting it to be "slowburn" is all opinion based. Some people might prefer romance to be more fast paced, some people might want it to be about FL aiding him in his escape from the church and the relationship developing as they work together.

I also think your idea of sexualization is too soon to actually determine it. Does it sexualize his position itself? Does MC think stuff like "He's sexier because he's a priest" or put priests on an inherently sexual position? If anything, they're trying to do the opposite from what we've seen and trying to escape from the position of priest. It focuses on him as a person having appeal, rather than the position itself. We don't see the other priest being shown as sex gods that everyone lusts after either. The reason she wants him is because of his personality of being respectful, which has been shown to not be something all priest share based on the church. We don't see his abs because "OMG an innocent priest being sexual is so hot!," we see it because it's the ML.

We've seen tons of dukes being shown as having sex appeal in manhwa, do the artist all sexualize dukes in specific? Think of these as just common positions that otome games typically want to fulfill for their MLs + the obvious fact that of course all MLs are gonna be hot and be shown as such. Their position has no bearing on sex appeal, it's the MLs themselves.
