Wuxia is a genre of Chinese fiction that focuses on the adventures of martial artists in ancient China. It often involves themes of chivalry, brotherhood, and romance.

Xianxia is a subgenre of Wuxia that focuses on the cultivation of martial arts and spiritual powers.

Idk about actual difference but I read a lot novel like that, for me most obvious difference is in Xianxia they live for long time like you can see characters 1000 yo or something and trying to be ascend to be immortal. While Wuxia still has some fight, cultivation elements they live like normal people. Or maybe they live most 100 etc yo.

Ascending would probably fall under Xianxia

That actually clarified the part where I’m confused about. So wuxia still has cultivation elements. I initially thought wuxia = martial arts and xianxia = martial arts + cultivation. Thank you so much! I appreciate it.
