As far as I remember, he didn't pretend to be MC, but he looked a lot like MC, so they came up with a conspiracy to manipulate ML because he was already almost completely crazy, he killed many, many people, went to battles and non-stop looking for MC... I'm kind of disappointed that they skipped a lot of the ml's suffering, in the novel he really suffered a lot like a lot and in the novel the reunion didn't come easily there were a lot of obstacles oh and i almost forgot they completely erased the plot about someone's younger brother pretending to be the mc.
