This series is a lot like junk food for me. I don't think it is very good, at best it's mediocre, but it does enough things decently well that it makes for a quick read and keeps my attention. It isn't actively annoying and keeps my attention long enough for me to see how everything unfolds. The only thing I don't like is Carsen violating Maythan when he's a child of rape. Out of everyone, he should understand the most why that's wrong.
