You do know this is based on a book right?
This is actually a very well known book/series of books in the USA and Canada. There is even a movies. I think what most people don't realize is what Anne is all about. She's an orphan and has had to deal with a lot in her young life. There is no romance in the first book. As she grows up, her attitude towards other people does get better. I think the main reason(s) I like her is because she doesn't let anyone tease her or bully her. She gets mad when someone calls her "carrots." I love her because of it. I understand her a bit. I was bullied growing up. *shrug* She's a strong female character unlike most manga female characters. She won't let the lead male run all over her. If you stopped at this one, you missed the best parts ;) and the sad parts, too.
Then it's merely that the manga portrayed the book poorly
Sorry to say this, but I hate this manga, I mean I was only attracted to it in the first place because it was historical and romance but after reading it - it was not only CRAP but there was barely any romance. I mean I just couldn't put up with Anne's annoyingness (don't think this is a word, but what the hay) I mean the girl was so, how do I say this, ANNOYING AND SPOILT. She is constantly crying over the smallest things. Honestly, I think that Diana would have made a better main character. If you are going to read this I advise you just drop it and move onto a better manga like A Victorian Romance: Emma (also an anime) or Pansy or Lady Georgie or maybe even Candy Candy (haven't read it yet but by the reviews it is really good). Anyway I think I have finished ranting - PEACE OUT!
PS: Out of all of the mangas I stated above Pansy is the best, if you like historical and romance I seriously advise you to read it.
