He could just say that he trains with swords and spears in case he can't cast spells. You don't need a job class to learn swordplay.

Staff might ask why weapon-inflicted wounds are present eventhough he's a sorcerer. He may get away by saying it's from lance-type spells, but weapon damage is usually clean especially his attacks that only take one swipe to go through. Earth lance creates jagged wounds, while ice lance can cause frostbite damage around the wound. Fire and lightning is out of the question. Water lance...I dont have experience with that. (=・ω・=)
