I cant exactly say thts hes only using yeonjae for connection coz they will grow to be bestfriend. It just tht he knows befriending Yeonjae is beneficial for him. N if im not mistaken, the reason why he wanted to be friend from the first place is bcoz Yeonjae is the only one who didnt laugh at his name. All in all, I think its how Yeonjae perceive of him? like he think Nobi is only friending him for the benefits. Yeonjae really think low of himself.

I read this novel a while ago however it is quite disappointing that they didn’t portray the thoughts of the MC well.. in the novel you could really tell he was well mature for his age and has really been living a miserable life.. I don’t remember how many times I cried because of his thoughts was really resonate with me. They also didn’t portray the adorable MIST (FOG) they had much closer bond in the novel rather in the manhwa and his bestfriend was not portrayed as cunning as he was in the novel despite that I enjoyed it and im not sure if the manhwa had the correct timeline cause I remember him being an elementary kid rather than a middle school hmm will need to re read this novel to confirm facts!
