I don't think Akihito is 'unworthy' of Asami.
I just think their relationship is toxic and they shouldn't be together.

From Asami's men Pov. Takaba is a whole diff. kettle of fish. he mouths off to their boss, makes a lot of trouble for every one. They may see him as extra work and bullet holes. but they also reconginze the importance of Takaba to Asami example Kuroda taking the bullet for Takaba and Kirshima's actions on the ship in N. T. Takaba's worth is beyond measure if these men and Asami himself are willing to lay down their lives for him His closet men are willing to be his (Takaba's ) shield they value him also. those are not small actions. They are well aware of his worth and what he means to Asami.

Um, so just to get this straight (heh) unless I'm misinterpreting what you said above…
Akihito is the main character and Asami is the love interest, Akihito is the primary character and is hugely integral to the plot, that is why the story is told 90% from his point of view and revolves around his actions and what happens to him.
Why is it ridiculous that the main character would end up with his main love interest? Because that is one of the most common plot devices in history;
Guy wants guy/girl, guy has to battle obstacles, grows as a person and some other shit, guy gets girl/guy in the end and they live happily ever after blah.
This is a typically set up story and I really don't see Sensei introducing a new love interest for either Akihito or Asami as an ending because the whole point of the story thus far has been their struggles both against each other and crossing the various obstacles keeping them apart. Not to say it in a negative way but this is a pretty typical manga, Yaoi and love story so we'll most likely have a very straight forward ending (and the boys will be together….)

That was sarcasm. Of course I agree with that but, there are people who thinks Asami will not end together with Akihito and he will end up with Fei instead.(⊙…⊙ ) It's not that I don't ship them or find them good together but it's quite unrealistic even for me. At least not after 71 chapters and more than 15 years. Misleading love interest stick together for mostly 10 chapters not 71.
Haha yes in realistic terms Akihito would have had some crazy breakdown by now from all the guys being constantly after his ass, not to mention ending up in a relationship with his rapist…I do try not to think about the first chapter lol (￣ε(#￣)Σ
