Well the picture of the tiger [amongst the rest of the animal portraits] means that its a genetic thing [which is probably why they kidnapped her] and the fact that the soldiers told ML that there is a tiger that turns into a duke. The duke went missing in the war so maybe he is stuck in tiger form???? I am assuming the temple is behind this.
I saw in one of the chapters with the temple there is a tiger in a cage that may have been the duke.

So the missing duke is actually the tiger and they are kidnapping and turning people into animals for ulterior motives……
