I hope you have read the recent chapter cause i don't want to give spoiler
In one of the chapters, the 'original' Edith told the mc that this world was meant for the mc and not her, I think that the og Edith said this because mc was the first person who could actually challenge Reese/Author's authority and could defeat her. Also I'm not sure but I think that mc is the first who could change the ml. Like how ML started to think that the way ml think is wrong about Edith and how he actually started to question the 'voice' that constantly tried to manipulate him in thinking that Edith is a villainess.
In my conclusion, I feel like the characters in the family were controlled, they couldn't show their love to anyone but Reese because of the Author and now that they are free of their control, their true self is shown.
I just wanted to say was that in this particular story the family can now show Edith their true feelings without any control and manipulation so I just wanted to kind of help Blurrionice when they said that they were confused about how to feel when the ml's family started to be nice, I just wanted to let them know how I felt. Thats all
bro this is exactly why they hate the trope, because of the whole mind control excuse they have for their poor behavior. Its like you're not allowed to hate the characters or hold them accountable for their actions.
Personally, even character like ml, struggling to get out of that control already make him special but its frustrating that you can't criticize him about how he acts with blondie and can only be amazed at how hard he tries to understand fl. They have such an undeniable excuse to be assholes that even just being normal makes them seem better.

I’ve come to very much dislike mind control stories. My issues stem from the fact that there is the overarching villain and everything else seems to be swept under the rug. Like I get it, they wouldn’t have acted the way they do unless they were controlled but my complicated feelings stay. Edith’s suffering was still there and done by their hands(albeit through the control of the author). And that’s what doesn’t sit well with me. Even if she understands that this wasn’t their actions, it still sucks for her since she had to live through the abuse the author made her feel. Like it’s a super complicated feeling because, again, I know that this isn’t their faults but damn it sucks. I’m left feeling so torn up about who I like and who I don’t like. Ultimately, this is just my brain telling me that I probably do not like mind control stories since it makes shrouds the entirely story in moral shades of grey.
