And that's why you fail at politics. It's called damage control. He's trying to maintain peace, not scare anyone into war. People do stupid things when they are afraid. If he shows too much of a force then there's a chance that all 3 kingdoms will unite to fight them. What he did was actually smart.
it would be nice if the MC wasn't so wishy-washy... I get that he's been put into a position of authority rather than wanting and taking that position for himself, but EVERY. SINGLE. PERSON. outside of his kingdom insults and looks down on him, knowing that he's the "king" of the country. and he just rolls over and takes it until his underlings step in and escalate the situation.
