i think it was the empress that was selfish for that part. the emperor gave her the choice, even if he wouldn't want her to pick the temple. but the empress decided to stay because SHE wanted to stay by his side this time. but hey thats just how i interpreted the ending.
So she’s going to live solely for him and that’s the ending??? I wish she would’ve taken the position at the temple to help other people?? Very weird choice really didn’t care for this one
