It was a journey rich with suspenseful moments, poignant reflections, and pivotal events that held me in thrall and deep contemplation.
Honestly, it was heartbreaking to witness the gradual crumbling of the relationship between young Seju and Sumin.
The author embedded a powerful truth within their parting: sometimes, even the things that feel most unshakable must come to an end. The lesson is that one must find the strength to move forward, for a desperate attachment to what is already destroyed only serves to chain you in place, draining your spirit until you fail to notice that love has vanished, leaving only guilt and a futile quest for a redemption no one can grant.
In clinging to the ruins, we risk blinding ourselves to new beginnings—to the chance of loving again, of finding happiness, and of becoming a more whole and worthy person.
There is a bitter irony in their fate. Sumin, unwilling to forgive Seju for her mistake, ultimately found herself making the same one. It was a masterful stroke, illustrating a humility: everyone deserves forgiveness, for anyone is capable of stumbling.
I find myself unable to harbor hatred for any of them; I can only accept them with all their complexities and imperfections.
To this day, Seju remains my favorite. It brings me genuine joy to watch her slowly shed her fears and self-imposed limitations, learning to live fully and finally feeling a sense of protection.
And now, she has someone like Do Won by her side—a presence of such tender care. I feel their chemistry is deeper and more conscious than what she shared with Sumin. With Sumin, the connection was born from a desperate need; she was the first to see Seju not as a conglomerate heiress, but simply as a person. Seju clung to that lifeline, terrified of being alone in her cruel world.
But beside Won, she is different. She allows herself to be more vulnerable, more serene. She no longer feels the need to maintain rigid control, because she feels the unwavering strength of a reliable shoulder beside her.
They are, simply, meant for each other.
