I'm torn.. romanticizing this is

annehime May 28, 2017 7:53 am

I'm torn.. romanticizing this is sick and weird since both boys hurt and killed people.. but why the author need to draw sangwoo like a demi-god, then have him be a sociopathic murderer, then have him be very logical and caring towards Bum at times.. ugh the uncle is giving me the creeps none of harada's works ever gave me.. or Itou-san series.. I wuv this.. she made Sangwoo like your demented prince charming.. hul

You wer taught that? I wasnt, nobody told me what bad guys should look like, only how they act, I'm not surrounded by superficial people, and then there's also the news so.. annehime

you're not surrounded by superficial people, you're just torn because although he's a sociopath he's also hot. alright. makes sense.

It's not about whether he's hot or not, it's about how the author chooses to exploit it during the story, and whether it's in a context where it is necessary for the story, or not... Whether it's important to give depth to the story and/or make the plot move forward, or whether it's just fan service. In the case of Sangwoo's physical appearance, part of it is relevant to the plot to justify the fact that many of the other characters don't find him suspicious at all, out of their own superficially-mindedness. However, we've been shown panels of just him and Bum, or of him alone with many of his clothes off, even though there was no other character around that Sangwoo had to "seduce" with his physical appeal in order to distract them from uncovering his own dark secrets (Bum doesn't count because he already knows them). That was clearly fan service.. It's the same as when that police dude took his top off for the first time: there was no plot point so far that required the reader to see the character with his body on display at that particular time. It was clearly fan service.
Granted, this is yaoi and of course we're going to get fan service: that's a given. However, this story has a very unusual plot for a yaoi story, in the sense that it's a full-on suspense/thriller, unlike the usual dark yaoi stories which don't usually go this deep and far to fully contextualize and develop their suspense/thriller plotlines. That's why it's to be expected that some readers may wonder whether this is even a yaoi story to begin with, or whether it's "appropiate" to go about writing a story with such "controversial" topics and themes as a yaoi rather than a mere suspense/thriller, since the story also being framed as yaoi (and not just as suspense/triller) will inevitably lead to it having lots more of fan service than if it was merely classified as suspense/thriller.
Anyway, I think all this is merely the basis of what we all need to keep into account in order to be able to debate this matter somewhat seriously.

yeah I'm not gonna read all that sorry my comment was in response to op's "why the author need to draw sangwoo like a demi-god" to which the answer is ~cause that's how u write/draw a sociopath, narcissism /perfectionism is their thing. that's it. ppl romanticize them irl because of their charm. Ted Bundy was real.

Exactly. Which is why I said some of it is needed for the sake of story-telling, lol.
I only said that some of it is for the sake of the story, whereas some other times it's clearly for fan service, just like with the police dude showing his amazing body, etc. (not saying irl cops can't have that body, lmao).
Can't say irl all sociopaths are as attractive as Sangwoo, lol. Though they'd probably want to...

You see things as black and white. Some people are taught not to judge a book by its cover. Look at Sangwoo, he's a fucking saint to other people. Clearly he's the devil incarnate. @Anonymous

Did you not understand my reply? Or are you new to English? You apparently judged people by the cover, before you were taught by whoever.. meanwhile, I was saying that where I grew up, physical appearance doesn't matter. So the concept of You needing someone to teach you something BASIC like monsters can look handsome is very IDIOTIC to me., Since you needed someone to tell you that? Geez, that preschool understanding. Did you only grow up watching DISNEY? Even Pokemon and Sailor Moon fans know that villains are mostly beautiful.. IDIOT.

You obviously didn't take literature 101. There a new concept that's growing.

1990's: villains are beautiful and ugly. Protagonists are beautiful and ugly.. therefore: VILLAINS BEING HOT AND BEAUTIFUL is OLD NEWS. watch SAILORMOON or Pokemon if you're in grade school RN.
1996- mainstream protagonists can be physically flawed.

The trend right now, and this is an eye-opener for you.. is not beauty.. but PSYCHOLOGICALLY making the villain HUMANE and EVIL. CARING and RUTHLESS.

Daaaaaamn boy, stop reading manga for a while and read GAME OF THRONES.

    AGAIN.. GAME OF THRONES.

    op, what the hell.

your first comment, the one that started all this, was just a mess. you seemed to be very confused about the authors motives? about sangwoo. I just laid down some very simple concept.
I don't - and honestly I don't want to- know where u grew up but (and okay yeah I guess this depends on how old you are but in my time,) kids books villains are ugly. witches and monsters. or did u think I meant to imply that my parents or "the people around me" were vain and tried to teach me not to trust ugly people? lmao.

I have no idea what game of thrones has to do with this and I don't care anymore.

are u 12? cause someone older than that discussing things like you do would just be embarrassing. if you are 12 though, or just younger than 18, I rest my case.

"Nobody told me how bad guys should look like, only how they act like" My point is, before you rage around like a fucking hen, Sangwoo acts like a saint to other people. If we go by your logic, only judging "villains" by their actions, not just appearances is how you do things where you supposedly grew up. I won't even entertain the rest of your discrimnatory statements.

    Oh and also

You automatically look for the worst in the conversation. Why not try to be civil and analyze if the person meant to be hostile? It shows your upbringing as a F lipino. You said it yourself, people judge you not by appearances, but how you act.

Nakakahiya ka bes. Kaya hindi umuunlad P lipinas eh.
