He was punished. When he received the letters, the background looked like a dungeon, the windows had bars which meant he was a prisoner but he is still royalty so he would not be executed. His father probably loved him so much that the older brother could not have him exiled. At the end, he spoke with his dad who pardon him for not following his brother's request. Hence, he could still be a prince and be with Suzuki at the end.
