Reading everyone's comment led me to spoiler before i read the story but the angst and oblivion was there , is it only me who thought like this?? He became blind slowly ok but the mint smell?? It was already on him when he freed jean from the catamite right? So it means he was getting blind from since then or what? Some peoplesaid it was the mint tea , even i believe it is as how he didn't let jean drink it .. He even spilled or threw that tea beacuse he knew it was poisoned. In short he freed jean as he fell for him in first sight , then Jean and maximin exchanged their thoughts of new world where Maximin supported jean, and since he was already getting poisoned by his uncle , he was ready to sacrifice everything.. but stillthere are many things ive yet to understand which ill reread some day in future and understand.... But in sides did they behead one of his friends because they suspected him to hide maximin's body and jean remained silent??
