I think it's the opposite, actually. I think his relationship with the seme is making him realize that the "friendship" he had with that other guy was not normal or healthy. The seme has actually helped him come out of his shell and make friends whereas the other guy purposely isolated him so the uke would be dependent on him.
Bet you the dick is the one who started spreading rumors about the uke being gay to isolate him and have him all to himself.
