I don't know what I've turned into, but I'm feeling sorry for more and more bad guys I don't like them one bit, but since you can see actual reasons why they would end up that way, it's just sad. But that's exactly how you create a good villain The poor mom (yes, poor thing) was born to a father like that, who most likely just used him to acquire more power by marrying his child off to the emperor. Then he gave birth to a beta which wasn't supposed to be possible. And in this loveless marriage, his husband suddenly found true love and had an alpha son with her, leaving this guy stuck in a helpless void with no way out. If only he had been shown a little bit of love, maybe mom wouldn't have turned out like this, but alas... The grandfather probably also had a hard time being a beta and did everything to crawl out from that label and so on. Same with the cousin: A result of their environment being trash and not being able to break free from that basically. Great writing!
