Try re-reading the first chapter.

I did and I still don't get it :)))
1st chapter shows him in the first pannels walking around barefoot and bruised...idk why? Is that "the present"? Like.. They don't work out in the end or something and all we've been reading so far is just a big flashback, a story telling of how everything went down since they met again and how everything led to that moment in the 1st chapter?

we are currently reading the lead up events to whatever happened at the very beginning of chapter 1, chapter 1 beginning is the present and all of the following chapters are the past
